The Wilmington Starnews ran this quiz to help prepare their audience for the upcoming hurricane season. They partnered with three local advertisers (insurance, roofing, electric supply) and gave away a $150 home improvement gift card to drive participation. The timely content and educational aspect of the quiz was highly engaging and drove over 650 submissions. The Wilmington Starnews collected over 400 opt-ins and provided about 70 leads for each advertiser utilizing lead generation questions.

Weather Radio Sweepstakes

WLNS-TV | Lansing, MI

Severe storm season starts early in Michigan so WLNS ran a sweepstakes to win an NOAA weather radio, courtesy of advertiser Auto-Owners Insurance. This codeword sweepstakes drove viewership and with six winners per day for one week. The campaign was a huge success with over 23,000 entries from just over 7,200 people.

Survive the Storm Sweepstakes

KSPR-TV | Springfield, MO

In partnership with a local advertiser, F5 Storm Shelters, KSPR hosted a storm shelter giveaway. The massive prize, valued at $5,200, drove over 4,700 entries and more than 3,230 opt-ins for KSPR. The registration form included a lead-generation question from the advertiser, asking users if they are considering purchasing a storm shelter in the next 6 months. They were able to identify 1,210 people looking to purchase soon and added just under 2,700 opt-ins for special promotional emails.

Earthquake Preparedness Trivia Quiz

Victorville Daily Press | Victorville, CA

To test their audience preparedness for potential earthquakes, the Victorville Daily Press ran this turnkey Earthquake Preparedness Trivia quiz. They included a gift card and an earthquake preparedness kit, provided by sponsor Armstrong Fairway Insurance Agency. The newspaper sent out two invitation emails to their email database of over 42,000. The quiz was taken 515 times and almost 430 users entered the sweepstakes. The newspaper earned over 400 opt-ins and the advertiser collected nearly 200 opt-ins. They also utilized a lead-generation question and identified nearly 60 users interested in learning more about earthquake insurance.

Hurricane Party Prep Package Sweepstakes

Post and Courier | Charleston, SC

As Charleston, SC prepared for the hit of the latest hurricane, the Post and Courier had a clever idea for a sweepstakes. They partnered with local HVAC advertiser to encourage their audience to prepare for hurricane season with a Hurricane Party Prep Package, including gift cards to both a grocery store and a liquor store as well as a few household emergency items. Three lead-generation questions were included to identify qualified leads for the advertiser. Over 1,000 people entered and more than 400 opt-ins for the sponsor.

Winter Safety Trivia Quiz

WHAM-TV | Rochester, NY

This quiz from WHAM and advertiser Tire World tested the audiences’ knowledge of winter safety topics such as driving safety topics, risks associated with shovelling snow, and even how often to clean your chimney to prevent chimney fires. The advertiser provided a $50 gift card to drive engagement. The community loved this fun way to prepare for severe winter weather – the quiz was taken 1,567 times! Of those users, over 240 opt-ed in for emails from Tire World.
