Editorial Quiz Creates Content, Engagement for TV Station
The citizenship quiz became a top-story for the small-market editorial team at KIDK-TV
Case Study Highlights
- 3,200+ entries
- Top story for weeks
- Enhanced station’s existing content
The Idea
KIDK-TV is a DMA 160 station out of Idaho Falls, Idaho. While developing a story on the challenge of becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen, their team saw an opportunity to engage their audience on this national news topic. Then, they decided to create a quiz to see if their viewers could pass the test themselves to highlight the difficulty of the real citizenship test.
The Execution
The actual naturalization quiz includes 100 questions on various aspects of U.S. history and civics. The team at KIDK researched the quiz and developed a 50-question version for their audience and included it in their related online and on-air stories.
The Results
The quiz quickly collected over 3,200 entries from the KIDK audience. As a result, it became the station’s top news story for several weeks! The team loved the opportunity to enhance their editorial content with this engaging quiz while reinforcing how difficult it is to become a citizen.
