Diagnosed with a genetic kidney disease, Irena needed a transplant to survive. She found that the wait times for a kidney ranged from 5 to 8 years, while the average life expectancy on dialysis is only 5 years. After two years of waiting, she received a life-saving kidney transplant in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, many others are not as fortunate.

The process of multilisting for transplants is intricate and not widely known. Without self-advocacy and thorough research, patients may spend their last days on dialysis, waiting for an organ that may never come. Recognizing the lack of a centralized database for transplant lists and wait times, Irena took it upon herself to create one.

Visitors to Irena’s website encountered numerous obstacles in getting listed for transplants. She recognized the need to handle the large volumes of HIPAA-protected documents for these applications. And knowing that cloud fax saves lives, she partnered with InterFAX.
