When COVID-19 led to the cancellation of the paper’s annual in-person home and outdoor show, they turned to promotions. They created this sweepstakes for a high-end Traeger barbecue grill and optimized their registration form for list growth for their original event sponsors. Overall the sweepstakes brought in more than 900 opt-ins for their original 18 sponsors. The success of this campaign was a critical component that led to saving their $25,000 event revenue.
Wild & Wonderful Summer Getaway Giveaway
New South Media | Granville, WV
I don’t know about you, but I am definitely looking forward to summer weather this year! With the tourism industry taking a hit from 2020 events, the team at New South Media pitched a contest to promote travel to West Virginia vacation destinations. The magazine secured Bavarian Inn, a resort and brewing company, as their title sponsor along with four additional prize sponsors for the runner-up prizes. Adding questions like “What is your favorite time of year to travel?” and “What is your typical budget for a WV trip or vacation?” the magazine learned valuable data to influence future magazine content. In the end, the sweepstakes brought in $2,500 and over 7,500 email opt-ins.
2020 Blue Water Spa Refresh & Restore

Blue Water Spa wanted a way to drive leads, but also show their support for the community. The WRAL-TV team helped them create this supportive quiz. The spa would give away three $4,000 prizes – one to a healthcare worker assisting COVID-19 patients, one to a mother taking care of her school-aged children, and a third prize to a random entrant. The contest added over 900 opt-ins to the Blue Water Spa database and 420 NEW opt-ins to the WRAL Moms & Family newsletter list. Plus the lead-gen questions helped Blue Water Spa learn about their most popular services.
The FUGE Wedding Reception Sweepstakes

The wedding industry definitely took a hit with the events of 2020. The Bucks County Courier Times worked with The Fuge, an event venue in Philadelphia, on a sweepstakes to identify local residents looking for an event venue. The prize was a $10,000 wedding reception at The Fuge – a prize that would most definitely attract qualified leads. Plus, they included lead-gen questions about such as “Is your guest list larger than 100 people?” to help qualify all the leads that came in. The sweepstakes generated $9,500 for the paper and identified 184 entrants who said they’re engaged and looking for a reception venue.
Mr. Electric LED Landscape Lighting Giveaway
WMEE-FM | Fort Wayne, IN
When a local outdoor lighting company wanted to pull their advertising spend due to COVID-19, WMEE-FM offered to run a promotion. A sweepstakes giving away a valuable LED lighting prize package would attract the entrants the client wanted. Plus, they included lead-gen questions, an email opt-in, and offered extra chances to win if users shared the contest with friends. After participating in the sweepstakes, every entrant received a thank-you email with a coupon for 15% off any Mr. Electric service. The sweepstakes added 214 people to the Mr. Electric database, secured a threatened advertising partnership, and added an additional $1,340 on top of the existing $40,000 annual package.
